Obedient Star

Astrologers have estimated that there are 200 billion to 400 billion stars in the universe. By contrast the world’s population as at Jul 2007 was estimated at 6.6 billion. Imagine if the stars all started to have a mind of their own and wander away from their set paths; we would have astronomical heavenly disasters! The heavens are in order because they obey the laws of God and thus we enjoy the order of nature. Thank God, He has not permitted the stars to have free will as He did for mankind. Thus the issue of obedience comes into play as we exercise the enormous responsibility of free choice.
So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being" ; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 1 Corinthians 15:45. The first Adam chose to disobey God and suffered the consequence of death though he was made a living being. The last Adam chose obedience even death on the cross and became a life giving spirit.

The Christmas story is all about obedience. Jesus humbled Himself and was made like a man, emptied of all divine powers and took on our human weaknesses. Jesus obeyed the will of God the Father and surrendered equality with God. Mary submitted to the will of God that she be pregnant by the Holy Spirit and was prepared to face humiliation and possible condemnation to death.

Why should we obey God? The simple answer is because He knows better than us. Have you ever been in a plane approaching the airport with thick clouds and zero visibility and the pilot obeying every command from the control tower including circling aimlessly for a period of time? The pilot cannot see around him, but the control tower with the technology of radar sees everything. He has the whole picture of aircrafts wandering around the sky following set instructions so that they align in order for landing. The pilot if he wants to stay safe cannot exercise his own will but the will of the control tower. The Psalmist declares, “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving (bring to life) the soul”.

How do we learn obedience? Usually via a humbling experience; perhaps a job situation, a relationship, an exam or a business deal. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. Hebrews 5:8. It’s difficult if not impossible for a proud man to obey because at the heart of obedience is a humble spirit.

We all find it hard to obey God consistently because we think we know better and our old nature is ever fighting our new nature in Christ. But take heart, in Christ we are more than conquerors.
This Christmas as we ponder on the willingness of Jesus to obey and its consequence for us may we examine our own lives and the areas we need to learn obedience.

Of course we cudn't get a table. There are 100,000 on e waiting list! Was atold 2nd best is Fat Duck near Oxford n 3rd French Laundry in Napa valley. What strange names. E 1st two do molecular cooking n are e best. Oh El Bulli means The Bull..haha.

Traveling in Spain with 2 other frens. San Sebastian is the gastronomical capital of e world. There are more Michelin star rated restaurants here than in Paris! A lot of the dishes are done molecular style. E.g. olives are broken done and then reconstituted. Similarly foie gras into little pearls like salmon eggs. We dined at Akelarre, 2 stars and Martin Berasategui, 3 stars. Ate up to our eyeballs literally. Hahahaha. Visited the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, a fascinating building by Frank Gehry.

Last night had birthday din with CT at Da Paolo next to Serene Centre. Great Italian food. Was quite tired after dat possibly due to the red wine and a long day..haha.. Just had din with e Haggai pple at Long Beach in ECP. Pepper crab is a little too spicy for me. I was in a bus to attend a sort of memorial service and was given a very tight spot at the end of the last row. Then in came an Indian couple. I initially thght the guy was a cabinet minister. On closer look he wasn’t. Because of his height, his head was hitting the ceiling as he was seated at the window and I wondered why he din sit at the aisle as there is more head room. Dry bones 2

About 2 weeks ago I visited Phnom Penh for the first time to have a better understanding of our missionaries’ work there. Jeff and Serene are both doing an excellent work amongst the prisoners and helping with visiting teams and short termers who desire exposure to evangelism and developmental work. Alvin our Missions pastor happened to be in town to teach at the Phnom Penh Bible College. Daisy and the kids were also there. All are very well versed in the Khmer language and highly regarded by the locals. Whilst Cambodia is peaceful today it has a dark history during the mid 70s with the horrors of the Killing Fields. The Genocide Museum I visited had graphic displays of torture, deaths and skeletons. There were hundreds of skulls and dry bones. It was a most depressing experience.

Dry bones or skeletons speak of death. God told Ezekiel to speak to the dry bones and He will do the work of joining them together again, putting on tendons, flesh, skin and making them alive again. In a similar way all who don’t believe in Jesus are condemned and dead. Our sharing of the good news that Jesus saves will see them come to life again eternally through the power of the Holy Spirit. That’s what our missionaries are doing in Cambodia in the modern “Killing Fields” of unbelief. We too can speak words of life when we share the gospel with unbelievers. Our church is encouraging all to share the good news and will be organizing an evangelistic dinner in Dec. Do pray and invite your friends to come.

My second meditation on dry bones is the issue of the miraculous. How can dry bones come to life again? Impossible! Pastor Lionel shared about how God healed one member’s curved spine and SP William shared about healing of a man with 4th stage cancer. There are some with physical ailments which are beyond medical science. Others face seemingly impossible obstacles at work or home or in relationships. The issue here is not so much can God heal or rescue us, He’s God of the impossible, but rather is it His will to do so? In this “dead” situation we are to mouth words of prayer to the Father and leave the situation in His hands. Someone puts it this way, “Fear comes from looking at the problem; strength comes from looking at God.” Life’s journey is not about just solving problems but discovering God’s purpose in each and every situation. Oh that we would learn that God loves and truly only desires the best for us when the going gets tough.
Ultimately on that glorious day, He will gather all bones, from the four corners of the earth and under the seas, together to bring to life forevermore.

A stockbroker fren took me to Prego for lunch, one of those 2 for 1 free. He had been eminently successful over e last 3 years in e stock market with some of his stock picks going up 5 times! He follows Buffet’s investment philosophy which in essence is value investing. He met Buffet last year as he is a shareholder. Buffet’s respond to “how long should one hold a stock” was “forever”. Den I went to e basement to look at e donut store and was quite happy dat e queue was bout 7 pple. I was grossly mistaken as e last person told me to look behind e gap and there were at least another 25 queuing. Near e front dey had waited 2 hours and I cudn’t get anyone to buy for me as they were all buying 12 boxes each, e max limit. Haha amazing huh..must be very delicious.
Yesterday my ex-colleagues took me to Kaisan@Raffles Hotel; an upmarket Jap restaurant. Excellent sushi, sashimi, fish etc. Yammy..lol.

I was in e holding area to board e plane having a carry-on and a brief-case. There were 2 or 3 colleagues with me and we were e last to board. My passport dropped out on way to door and when I recovered it e plane door just closed. I was flustered and signaled. Thankfully e stewardess re-opened e door. Walking in I saw several familiar faces from e office, was told dat some from market place also on board, and took out my boarding pass from my front pocket. I noticed a stick-it slip with some scribbling dat slipped out. E seats were full and I left my hand luggage and proceeded to e back which was quite spacious. There was an area with 4 or 5 stewardesses preparing steam-boat on a u-table (quite luxurious huh..) and I showed 1 of them my boarding pass. She said my seat in upper floor and volunteered to show me e way. Think it’s a mega plane like e A380…hahaha

Lesson One

Lesson Two

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy." "Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients." The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after the fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Lesson Three
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out!He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Management Lesson -(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!This officially ends your three minute management course. hahaha

This is a 3.2 kilo sultan river fish from Sarawak which in e old days was eaten by e sultans. My fren was given 5 of these and had them frozen at e Hua Ting in Orchard Hotel. He invited 7 of us for a sumptuous meal and we cudn't finish e (one) fish...haha. Of course there were other delicacies, like suckling pig, shark fins etc with fine red wines!lol..haha I am so bloated and may have to go work out later and fast from good food for a while. Ohh e fish is very fresh and no sand smell at all. Amongst other things we talk bout e ministers' pay and I must say very negative feedback.

Took e Konsortium super luxurious bus to KL with my fren. There were only 2 of us in e bus so we had e whole bus which can seat 18 to ourselves. haha not bad huh? On way back there were only 8 of us! Purpose was to see e work he's been doing with 4 shelter homes for children at risk, ranging from 5 years old to 18 years old. 1 home had all boys, 2 all girls and 1 mixed. They all mostly abandoned kids from dysfunctional families. Despite their background all looked pretty happy and were living like a family. E girls cooked the nasi lemak lunch u see in e pic. They sleep in rooms of 4 to 6 beds! E last pic is mall at KLCC, gigantic! Also bought a book at e Catholic church, called daughters of St Paul. Other pics showed tuition being given and their art-works.

We've been notified by Building Security that there have been 4 suspected terrorists working at our office. Three of the four have been apprehended.Bin Sleepin, Bin Loafin, and Bin Drinkin have been taken into custody. Security advised us that they could find no one fitting the description of the fourth cell member, Bin Workin, in the office.

My host version is diff. Was hosted by 2 Japs at e restaurent. E chef Nogawa san is holding a salt crystal which he said was taken from the Himalayan mountains and is 50 million years old. The first pic shows it in powder form for consumption. He also gave me a small crystal portion which he called "diamond" haha. Oh was told dat salt is used for cleansing in Jap culture and e sumo wrestlers throw them on ground to purify it before each bout.

Food which our Jap host told e chef to make it for Singaporean, kinda fusion (1st course mashed potato n salmon roe) was excellent and I thnk e price also reflects it..haha

Had 2 dreams and also recall 1 older one.
I was at e airport waiting at e lounge to leave for overseas about 9 plus pm. Went to toilet to change into more casual wear and then realised dat my passport and tickets were not with me. Next I was in the check-in ares near a toilet. Went in and saw my passport and ticket. A ah soh saw me and questioned me whether I am indeed the owner. She den check e passport and saw my photo and biz card and said, "Ok it belongs to you".

I was on holiday by beach resort and going for din at nice restaurent by beach. 2 ways to get there; by road or beach via a luxury hotel bare-footed. I chose to go via hotel and after a few steps had to cross obstacle mid-way up trees...hahaha

Had lunch with a taxi driver who was a colleague from my previous job n another colleague. Dey know e best hawker food in town; reasonable n good. We were at Zion Rd. He was retrenched 9 yrs ago and had since been driving taxi. E other former colleague is still in finance. I was told Spore has the most qualified cab drivers in e world cause many in their 40s who lose their jobs can't get another one. He's also witnessing to passengers. We talked bout e stock n property market; whether e govt will intervene to cool e property market, religion, e Spore economy. Taxi drivers by their business can tell u that e good times are bad. Saw a lawyer this am n thru increased biz he could tell that e property market was getting hot since last Oct. haha.

Since I have been fine lunching for e last 3 weeks; today was at Jiang Nan, Four Seasons hotel, yummy fins and glutinous rice, thght I share e article below..haha (:

This is a very good article. Not only about the warm water after your
meal, but about heart attacks. This makes sense..the Chinese and Japanese drink hot tea with their meals...not cold water...maybe it is time we adopt their drinking habit while eating!!!

Nothing to lose, everything to gain...

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you.
It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold
water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will
slow down the digestion. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine.

Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to
drink hot soup or warm water after a meal.

A serious note about heart attacks: You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line.

You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart
attack. Nausea and intense sweating are also common symptoms. 60% of

Had bad hiccups whole week and worst day was wed which lasted till 3 am. e doctor was baffled and referred me to a neurologist and ordered a thorough xray of my stomach and oesophagus-kinda last effort. Well after 20 xrays dey found nothing wrong. E neurologist thinks cause 1 part of my brain too active....hahaha not cause i am smart but probably due to stress...so on medication now.

might have been just a little provoked at the time by Mr. Williams
who had climbed over the fence into the yard and was shooting it
repeatedly with a pellet gun.***

A Philadelphia restaurant was ordered to pay Amber Carson of
Lancaster , Pennsylvania , $113,500. after she slipped on a soft drink

2nd Place

Kara Walton of Claymont , Delaware , successfully sued the owner of a
night club in a neighboring city when she fell from the bathroom
window to the floor and knocked out her two front teeth. This

the ladies room to avoid paying the $3.50 cover charge. She was
awarded $12,000 and dental expenses***

Even in Japan where I was last week, where Christmas is not a holiday and the majority are non-Christians, there were signs of Christmas everywhere; in restaurants, hotels and public parks. In Hokkaido and much of the northern hemisphere it?s going to be a wintry and white Christmas. By contrast in the South, Christmas is going to be warm.

However beyond all the external and physical celebration of Christmas what is the meaning of this event? The simple answer is; it?s the celebration of the birth of Jesus. It?s Jesus? birthday party. In a birthday party it would be most unusual to forget the birthday person or to come to the party without a gift. This is exactly what the world is doing to Jesus. We as believers are also sometimes guilty! We are so busy with everyone and ourselves that we forget to honour the one whose birthday we celebrate. We are so caught up and immersed in the celebration that the meaning of Christmas eludes us. Christmas is God becoming man to live with human limitations. The God Almighty and creator of the entire universe became a human being to live a sinless life and thus save us from our sins. I used to think that this idea is foolishness to the (intellectual) thinking person; how can God constrained Himself to live like a human being. But with God ALL things are possible. Christmas is ?God with us?. Christmas is about love! Love with us.

Christmas season always brings about feeling of nostalgia in me as I have celebrated quite a number overseas with friends that are still living there. Giving of gifts to love ones is an integral part of the celebration. What is your gift to Jesus this Christmas? Put in another way how do you show your love to Jesus on His birthday? Are there some things your treasure that you need to give to Him who has given you His life and everything you own? In this season of joy and time of cheer, would you show love; to Jesus and to those around you, close ones and not so close ones?

Went to Ipoh and Pangkor with e Wongs. Food was great esp Ipoh hor fun with chicken, banana prata. Notice e big bean sprouts...

Was at the atm and left my mobile there. Rushed back and cudn't find it. Asked the large crowd queuing n no one knew.. finally got it from the recep. haha first time a lost mobile was found. Den went to Novena Sq to lunch with a fren and forgot which level I parked e car. In Ipoh the Cantonese has a word for these sort of blunders...dey called it Ji Mak..literally means pig's brand hahaha
Oh another word I learnt there for those who are very slow....Mo Jie....haha

Haha my turn to get into trouble with e car. Was at Binjai Park for Indo lunch meeting and in a double park side road was trying to provide more space for passing cars and got my front left wheel stuck in e drain. Several kind souls tried to assist, in fact 3 groups of pple but alas to no avail. To top it off it was drizzling.
Finally had to get AA to rescue.

ONE WOMAN'S STORY ON SOYA...
This is my true story, nothing altered. These are facts, as they relate
to
my experience, my opinions based on what I have read and felt. I am
relating them to warn other young health-conscious women who are
unwittingly harming themselves.

In 1989, I graduated from high school in Texas and couldn't wait to hit
the
big college city. One of the changes I wanted to make was to eat
healthier.

Once I moved to health-conscious Austin, Texas, I began to fortify my
body with the best and healthiest foods I could find.

Tofu was the main ingredient in every healthy dish and I bought soya
milk almost
every day used it for everything from cereal to smoothies or just to
drink for a quick snack. I bought soya muffins, miso soup with
tofu,soybeans, soybean, sprouts, etc. All the literature in all the
health and fitness magazines said that soya protected you against
everything from heart
disease to breast cancer. It was the magical isoflavones, the
estrogen-like hormones that all worked to help you stay young and
healthy. I looked great - I was working out all the time, but my
menstrual cycle was off.
At 20,I started taking birth control pills to regulate my menstrual
cycle.

In addition to this I began to suffer from painful periods. I began to
get
puffy, it was as though I was losing my muscle tone. I began to suffer
from
depression and getting hot flashes. I mistook all this for PMS since my
periods
were irregular. By the time
I was 25, my periods were so bad,I couldn't walk. The birth control
pills never made them regular or less painful so I decided to stop
taking them.

I went on like this for another two years until I realized my pain
wasn't normal. At 27, my gynecologist found two cysts in my uterus.
Both were the size of tennis balls. I went through surgery to have them
removed and thank God they were benign. The gynecologist told me to go
back on birth control pills. I didn't. In 1998, he discovered a lump in
my breast. Again, I went through surgery and again it was benign. In
November 2000 my glands swelled up and my gums became inflamed.
Thinking I had a tooth infection I went to the dentist who told me
that teeth were not the problem.

After a dose of antibiotics the swelling still did not go down. At this
point I could feel a tiny nodule on the right side of my neck. I told
my mother I had thyroid trouble. She thought I was being silly. No one
in the family suffered from thyroid trouble. Going on a hunch I saw a
specialist who diagnosed me with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma. After a
series of tests he told me it was cancer. My fiance and I sat stunned.
We were not prepared and I was so scared. We scheduled surgery right
away.

The specialist told us that it would only be after the operation that a
pathologist would be able to tell us for sure if it was cancer. They
found a tumor at my right lobe composed of irregular cells and another
smaller tumor growing on the left,
so the entire thyroid was removed. They told me that after undergoing
radioactive iodine I would be safe and assured me that I could
live a long life.

After treatment I began to search for the cause of all these problems.
I never once thought it could be all the soya I had consumed for nearly
ten years. After all, soya is healthy. I came upon a web page that
linked thyroid problems to soya intake and the conspiracy of soya
marketed as a by-product of the vegetable oil industry. This was
insane, after all, the health and fitness magazines had said nothing
about soya being harmful.

I visited a herbalist who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 1985.
She informed me that soya was the culprit. She had a hysterectomy due
to cysts and other uterine problems.
A few months later another acquaintance who had consumed soya came down
with thyroid cancer.

A girl in England I met through the Internet in a thyroid cancer forum
had just undergone surgery and she was only 19. What was going on?

Breast cancer is linked to estrogen. What mimics estrogen in the female
body, SOYA! But I never suspected soya because until now I never once
found a single article that stated soya could be dangerous.

Women who took soya prior to thyroid problems will continue to take it
after if they are not aware of what soya actually does, what it
contains and how it reacts in the female body. I think this is the
reason that women with thyroid cancer often develop breast cancer
later. My co-worker is big into soya and I see her losing hair and
gaining weight despite a walking workout during her break and after
work, and apples and oranges for lunch. She just had cysts removed from
her uterus too. I
warned her to stay off soya. I referred her to websites but until it is
on the evening news on all four networks, women will suffer. Since the
thyroidectomy, I do not touch soya, haven't for two years.

Dear readers,
Please use my story in any way you can. There are so many young girls
who are consuming soya because they think they are taking care of
themselves, and women taking soya because they want to be healthy. It
is so unfair that the information about the dangers of soya isn't more
widely circulated. It is sad.

Do u noe it's 2,100 metres above sea level. Weather's great. BUT dey have lunch from 3-5 pm and din from 8:30 pm onwards, just like e spainards! Yesterday was real busy out from 8 am till 11 pm. And oh I lost my luggage from Frankfurt despite several reminders to e airline staff not to forget. Flgiht from Sing to NYC via FFT was cancelled at FFT due to technical problems and as I had a din appt chged to Luthansa from FFT to Mexico. The good thing is I get to buy up to !,000 worth of personal stuffs like 2 pants, 2 shirts etc and charged them to e airline. Not bad eh?

Oxford dictionary defines ?fellowship? as ?a group sharing a common interest or aim?. Our common interest as believers in BCC and more specifically in CGs is we believe in the same one Lord and God of our lives. Actually fellowship was practiced way before we were created. The Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit had fellowship with each other. Then the angels came along and had fellowship with God. God then made us in His image, i.e. to be like Him; to share His glory and have fellowship with Him. The fellowship in heaven must be perfect and heavenly with no place for pride, hurt or ill intention. You cannot be a hermit or hide in heaven for 2 reasons; the glory of God shall be like the sun and there shall be no darkness and the Holy Spirit will still be in each of us! In heaven we shall rule with the King of kings and the Lord of lords. No sibling rivalry or jealousy to worry about. One reason why God wants us to have fellowship with one another on earth is because that's what heaven is about. He made us this way, as our God is a God of fellowship. God?s nature and character is best expressed through fellowship. In the same way fellowship will expose our very being and put to practice the command to love one another.

One of the biggest challenges in Christian fellowship is when we disagree, sometimes vehemently on what is termed principle and dogmatically on what is considered theological truth. These disagreements had led to some leaving the church and friendships frayed or even broken. How can we disagree and not be disagreeable? Many things are good but few are important. The 5 "alones" we cannot compromise on as articulated by Prof Ramesh from Dallas Theological Seminary are as follows:
By grace alone
Through faith alone
In Christ alone
The Bible alone
For God's glory alone.
The rest we can learn to agree to disagree. The spirit of love and humility will enable us to reject the notion that only we have the exclusive right to truth or that our view must be the only right one. Be wary that our dogmatic view could be a guise for unresolved pride in our lives. Even Peter when he was full of the Holy Spirit needed correction on believe tainted by prejudice!

Next Sunday is our EOGM. May the spirit of love, unity and humility prevail.

Recently I benefited greatly from being in fellowship with God's people with miraculous answers to prayers. 2. Cor 1:11 says we are helped by the prayers of others and the prayers of our fellowship group lead to "gracious favours granted". May you be encouraged to share your needs with your CGs.
