Hey created my own blog..haha
Dec 18th 2005
What I want for Christmas is love.
The themes for Dec were inspired I believe by the carol, ?What I want for Christmas is my two front teeth?. This wish by a young child is a desire for restoration of that which was lost! These themes, ?faith?, ?hope?, ?love? and ?Saviour? when realised would indicate that we are fully and truly restored to that which God intended for us at creation. Today, during this Christmas season, God is ready and willing to grant our wish for love.
Why is love and humankind so intertwined together? It is like two inseparable twin; one cannot do without the other. ?To love and to be loved, I?ll be happy? from ?Little Women? sums up our DNA. Songs like ?Love is a many splendour thing? and ?When I fall in love? are expressions of humanity?s basic need; to love and to be loved! ?Love changes everything? a song composed by Andrew Lloyd Weber for the failed Broadway musical of the same title said it very well. Put it anyway, love makes all the difference. Without love, life would be meaningless, in fact unbearable. We need to be loved because our Creator is love and when He created us in His image, love was part of it. That is why nothing in this world will satisfy us; not even the best of romantic relationship. There?s an emptiness that only the love of God can meet.
We are told in I Cor: 13 that faith and hope will one day pass away but love will last for eternity. Ever wondered why we didn?t morph from caterpillar to butterfly; without having to experience growing up? Part of the reason for the process of growing up is for us to experience love by those who take care of us, to give us a glimpse of the love of God, our Heavenly Father.
During this Christmas do you feel loved by God or your journey this year has left you broken hearted? Last Sunday Marilyn Baker reminded us that God will bind up the broken hearted. Isa 61: ?The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to comfort all who mourn, provide for all who grieve, to bestow the oil of gladness and a garment of praise.? Go to the everlasting Father who understands pain and has the power to restore and heal you. This is the message and essence of Christmas. God so love us that He willingly left the splendour and glory of His heavenly throne, humbled himself and take on the form of mortal man to die a horrific and painful death for each of us. How our sorrows must pale in comparison to His suffering!
Are you one of those who felt loved and blessed by the Lord? This Christmas share that love with someone. Do a kind deed; show practical love to someone needy. Most of all have a grateful heart and love God the Father in return. Ask like the Psalmist, ?What must I render to God for all His goodness to me?
